Le Loup

So I ran into Christian, Dan, and Victor at Shakespeare and Company yesterday. I harass them about the fact that they are talking about their gig tonight. I find out they are members of Le Loup - a super legit DC band that I haven't listened to before but have most certainly heard of.

Dan invites me to the show. For free. Liz and I go. Get plastered. Hang out with the band at Le Motel afterwards. and have an overall stellar time. Merci coïncidence.

Bike Update #527

Coming home from a terrible class today I find myself biking past one of the larger police stations (you can tell it goes back pretty far and has a huge courtyard).

Two huge dump trucks (twice normal size, I'd say) with some sort of organic matter full in the back pull out and I think to myself from a few blocks away, "Oh, that's interesting, I didn't know they had enough trees back there to fill up such big trucks with so many clippings."

One goes. The other one waits for me to go past. "Oh, that's nice of him," I think to myself.

I get closer to the first truck. I wonder what the organic material is.

HOLY CRAP. IT'S POLICE HORSE POOP. I CAN'T BREATHE.

I bike onto a side street to avoid the pain that was being inflicted on my nose.

THE END.

Bike Update and London

Bike doing ok....it's been snowing. Can't imagine that is good for the gears/chain.

Liz's bike: chain broke.
Ruta's bike: flat tire in the middle of the night while locked up.

Paris is not nice to bikes.

You know who is nice to bikes? London.

London loves bikes. London while not having a rental bike system probably has more bikers on the road and they are way cooler and the streets seem more dangerous but it doesn't stop them. Can all the cool bikers in London come to Paris and we'll have a party/bike fest? Love, Amanda.

Bike and Classes

Bike Outside Update: Day 4

I stepped in dog poop twice today unlocking my bike from where I left it last night. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE STEPPED IN DOG POOP IN PARIS. And believe you me, it's flipping everywhere. I hate my life.

Today I had my first class in French: Histoire de Paris. The prof, besides the fact that he is an old French man, seems super nice and probably won't be a jerk about me being terrible in French. I'd say I understood like 65-70 percent.

Spanish history class was pretty hilarious as it's only from 1976 to the present and thus we had two thousand years of background Spanish political history in one hour. King by king she would be like, oh he was weak, he was nice, she traded secrets from France to Spain, he was a womanizer. I think it's going to be a good semester.

Bike Outside Update 2010

So Ruta and I just moved into our new apartment. It's kind of super mega foxy awesome hot, I'm not gonna lie. It's in a great neighborhood, it's near where I babysit and Liz lives a five minute bike ride away.

BUT! and this is a large (in capital letters) but.

There isn't a place to store my bike inside. My bike is mostly made of shit anyway, and I wasn't and still am not too worried about someone trying to steal it. Aparently those really are the least of my worries.

Bike: Day -1: Sunday, left my bike at my old place and it was fine outside my old apartment.
Bike: Day 1: Monday, took the metro to get my bike, found it in top shape. Rode it to school, rode it home. Was raining, but not a big deal.
Bike: Day 2: Tuesday, 7:30am went outside in the dark to bike to school to a class that the prof didn't show up to to find a drunk man throwing up in front of my bike. Thank goodness it was mainly alcohol and he wasn't spewing chunks all over my bike.
Bike: Day 3: Wednesday, 9:30am walked down the block to go get my bike as someone had used my spot for their motorcycle to find my bike had LIGHT PINK SPRAY PAINT ALL OVER IT. Ruta says I now have a Barbie Bike. Someone decided it would be a good idea to tag my bike and so now it really looks like someone threw up on it....

Operation Bike Outside is not going very well. bah.
